Product Verification and Reliability Report – PVRR

The main purpose of the Product Verification and Reliability Report is to demonstrate how Martin Exterior fixtures are designed and tested for durability and reliability in any harsh outdoor environment. With this documentation on hand, lighting designers can specify Martin Exterior lighting fixtures for permanent outdoor installations with peace in mind. The following section describes in detail the most important test standards, which are found in the Product Verification and Reliability Report.

IP Class Test Verification:

The fixture is tested in an external laboratory for a specific IP code, International Protection Marking, IEC standard 60529 which classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against intrusion, dust, accidental contact, and water.

All Martin Exterior fixtures are rated to minimum IP 66, which equals full dust tightness and no ingress of water tested by powerful water jets from any angle.

Salt Mist Test Verification:

The salt spray test is a standardized corrosion test method (ASTM B117/ ISO12944 ) used to verify corrosion resistance of materials and surface coatings.

The fixture is tested in a closed testing cabinet, where a salt water (5% NaCl) solution is atomized by means of spray nozzles using pressurized air at an ambient temperature of 35°C. This produces a corrosive environment of dense salt water mist in the chamber, so the fixture exposed to this environment are subject to severely corrosive conditions.

All Martin Exterior fixtures are tested for minimum 1440 hours in order to obtain the ISO12944 marine grading C5-M, Medium durability to ensure good durability in marine and coastal applications for minimum 5 years.

Surge / Transient Test Verification:

The fixture is tested according to EN61000-4-5 / EN61000-4-4 for electrical surge immunity. Power lines and DMX signal line may be hit by surges from power switches and from lightning, so this is a real risk for any outdoor product.

All Martin Exterior fixtures are tested and classified to class 4 / 4 KV surge.

IK Class Test Verification:

This is a test according to EN62262, which is an international numeric classification for the degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment against external mechanical impacts.

So basically the fixture is tested with a hammer or drop ball on the weakest spot on the fixture to determine its IK class. The Martin Exterior products are rated to IK05 or IK08.

The Martin Exterior Inground is rated to highest standard IK10.

Solar Radiation and Moist Test Verification:

This is a method for exposing fixture to UV light in the presence of moisture to reproduce the weathering effects (temperature, humidity and/or wetting) to simulate the conditions which it is expected to endure in its real life application.

This is a cyclic test, according to ISO 4892-2 accelerated weathering standard, where the fixture will dry out for 102 minutes and then it will be exposed for water spray for 18 minutes, during both cycles with Xenon UV exposure, repeating this for minimum 2500 hours.

All Martin Exterior fixtures have passed this accelerated life time test

Cyclic Temperature Test verification:

The Fixture is tested for normal operation in a climate chamber with temperatures cycling from -20° Celsius to +55° Celsius for 30 full cycles. This test normally have a duration of several days to go through all 30 cycles.

All Martin Exterior fixtures have passed this accelerated life time test.

Application Vibration Test Verification:

Typically two different vibration test (Sinusoidal and Random) are performed with the purpose of demonstrating the adequacy of the lighting fixture to resist dynamic loads without unacceptable degradation of its functional and/or structural integrity.

First one is according to NTM-M104 /IEC 60068-2-6 is a sinusoidal vibration test at the force of 1.0g in all three directions (X, Y & Z direction) typically at 30 hz for 3 X 30 minutes.

Second test is according to NTM-M203 Random /IEC 60068-2-64, which is a random vibration test with a force at 0,7g in random frequency between 5-100 Hz RMS in all three directions (X, Y & Z direction) for 3 X 30 minutes.

All Martin Exterior fixtures have passed this vibration test.

Wind load simulation:

Fixture is tested with a static load simulating 41 m/sec (147 km/h) wind force according to IEC/ EN60598-2-5, 5.6.5, without causing failure or permanent set to mounting bracket. This equals Beaufort scale 12 – Hurricane Force

All Martin Exterior fixtures have passed this Wind load simulation.
